Getting organized has become a $6 billion industry. The concept is not new, but the tools to make it happen keep evolving. No longer are you faced with the choice of storage containers in blue or clear plastic. You can now choose your materials, from bamboo to sea grass.
Do you want the good news or the bad news?
- Good: No matter what it is that you are trying to store, there is a specialized container for you.
- Bad: So many choices take more time and can actually paralyze someone into taking no action because they are afraid there might be something better that they can find.
Buyers’ Caveat: Do not purchase something until you are sure of the specific use. Too many people start with the idea of getting organized, purchase containers, and then try to make their organizing efforts fit into those containers. Instead, organize first into groups or stacks, clearing rooms, and then decide what you actually need before you purchase something.
I have been called to help business people who have struggled to organize their offices and, in the attempt, bought lots of “stuff” (inboxes, containers, pen holders, file stackers, etc.). When we finish, we end up with a corner full of containers and accessories that are not needed. Those containers now become clutter which needs to be disposed of.
Save time and save money. Put things together before you purchase your storage containers.
