Planning for the Long Term

October 31st, 2006 · 1 Comment

Setting goals…building for the future…having a plan… managing your time to accomplish it all…

These are current key phrases that struck home when I visited Savannah for the first time last weekend after working in Atlanta.

Billed as the “Most Beautiful City in the Americas,” I think the town earns this. There are plazas every couple of blocks, with benches and tall, old trees. Just walking through each plaza bestows an air of peacefulness and lack of stress. Many of the buildings surrounding the plazas are 150-200 years old. The chances to rest and enjoy nature help create an environment that seems to conflict with the frantic everyday rush many of us experience on a regular basis. What forethought to start with nothing and create something that withstands the test of time and still nourishes us!

When you are planning, do you include long-term goals? Are you managing your time each day so that some of it is directed toward the achievement of these goals? It is so easy to get caught up in the urgent details of our daily life and neglect to block a portion of our day toward the advancement of our plans and dreams.
