In thinking about traveling, what do you plan to pack so that you can “stay in touch” during a short trip? I propose that in order to keep the packing to a minimum, you pack simply your cell phone. Let’s think about what the simplest of these gadgets can do these days. Obviously you can make and receive phone calls. And unlike a few years ago, you can place a call from just about any location. Gone are the days of losing a call in the elevator! In addition to that most basic of functions, your phone can act as the connector to the Internet while you’re gone on a short trip. You can also use it in place of a digital camera and camcorder to help you capture those memorable moments. These are the most common, but powerful, functions and uses.
Let’s look at some of the lesser used functions of the all inclusive cell phone. Have you thought about using your cell phone as your alarm? Remember, most phones have a built in alarm clock that you can use to help keep you punctual. They also have calendars that can hold dates and messages. Many of today’s cell phones also have a voice memo function that will let you record notes to yourself. And finally, almost every cell phone will have a calculator that will allow you to do quick number calculations and present accurate information regarding receipts, tips, allowances, and other budget related information.
When you think about it, this small device that can fit into any purse or pocket can take the place of several larger gadgets and help you to stay organized and in touch while you’re on a short getaway! In a recent posting, we talked about flexibility and being ready for any opportunity. Here’s a simple tool that demonstrates flexibility in itself.
