The “Inadequacy Syndrome” as defined by Abby Marks Beale (Rev It Up Reading), is a characteristic of our present-day society. It results when you start feeling there is something wrong with you and your time management skills because you didn’t watch the talked-about show (out of how many channels available?), or didn’t read the latest book (out of how many ‘latest’ books?), or didn’t see all the video clips on the popular website last night.
It’s hard enough to try to keep up with the daily flow of work. When you get home, there are still so many avenues you can pursue that the effort becomes overwhelming. If you miss something, you may start to feel there is something wrong with you. Abby stresses that, “You can’t do it all or know it all. Do the best you can and be happy.” That, of course, is much easier said than done.
How can you be sure that you are doing the best? If you know your goals, both long-term and short-term, and you prioritize every day, focusing on those things that will have the most impact on your journey to your goals, you are managing your life in the most positive way–even if you didn’t catch the latest episode of “The Apprentice” or “The Survivor.”
What areas in your day may cause you to feel inadequate in managing your time? If you have found some solutions, we would be pleased to have you share those with us. In this hectic society, everyone could benefit from the solutions of others.
