For those of us with the privilege of having an adminstrative professional to support our efforts, we should take time this month to extend our appreciation as Administrative Professionals’ Day approaches. However there is something else we can do that will be of benefit to both them and us, and that is to delegate more.
I am not talking about just piling on additional clerical chores but training your assistants to do more for you. The upshot will be that you decrease your work load over the long term and advance their skills at the same time.
When you are already struggling to manage time, it often seems nonproductive to stop and spend extra minutes teaching someone else to do a task that you could do faster right then. Yet that is a shortsighted approach.
Even though it takes additional time, the chore is usually something that comes up again and again The extra minutes now will save you hours and days in the future while, from the administrative professionals’ viewpoint, they are increasing their knowledge and value in the work place.
In many of my time management seminars, I spend time talking about delegating properly as a way to increase productivity. Both the “delegator” and the “delgatee” should be sure there is:
If you are lucky enough to have an administrative assistant, look at it as both a privilege and a responsibility Delegating can be a “win-win” situation for the two of you.
