Everywhere you turn today you see an ad for working from home. On a national newscast I often see a correspondent urging Americans to consider telecommuting and working from the comfort of their own homes. This arrangement offers many advantages to those who are able to enjoy it!
Let’s imagine a typical morning working outside the home: you wake up around 5:30 a.m., make your coffee, shower, eat breakfast, dress, and leave to fight the traffic during your hour-long commute so that you can arrive at a timely 8:00 a.m.. This can be tiresome, so you consider telecommuting, and you immediately realize three very distinct, personal advantages to working home:
1) Working from home allows you to eliminate several of these activities and wake up later, resulting in more sleep, and a better rested you.
2)Along with more rest, you don’t have to fight traffic, resulting in less daily stress
3)Finally, let’s not forget the cost of gas, which means working from home is easier on the pocket book too.
If you are able to make the switch to a home office, whether through a change in departmental policies or through starting your own business, there are professional advantages in addition to the personal ones listed above. You realize this when you see that your productivity skyrockets! What possible connection is there between working from home and increased productivity? Well, simple:
1)You are in a quiet, secluded place, which allows you to focus on working without the disturbances of your co-workers.
2) Since you were able to sleep later, you are better rested, allowing you to focus on your projects.
3) A more relaxed, yet professional, environment allows you to work without being under the stress that is inherent in an office setting.
In looking at the prospects of telecommuting, it is clear that there are many advantages to both your personal and professional well-being. Working from home can offer you more relaxation as well as increased productivity!
