You have probably either seen or heard about those TV shows where a team comes into someone’s home and transforms their disorganization into the foundation for an organized lifestyle. The changes can be awesome.
You get to take the journey with them, starting at the beginning where they discuss the person’s current lifestyle and how disorganization has negatively affected them. After about half an hour of your time (and several days of theirs in which they work very hard to declutter and rearrange), you are see that person again. He or she sports a giant smile while examining this transformation of spaces and speaks exuberantly about the new look and its potential for enhancing his or her life.
When people follow through with all the changes brought about by organizing their spaces, they get to experience many advantages:
The list could go on and on! Working within organized spaces can even lead to better health. Organization is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, most of us do not have a team we can call upon, or a magic wand we can wave to transform our lives. We have to do it ourselves.
When you want to make changes that can result in the advantages above, you will often find that the hardest part is actually getting started. The project seems huge. Do not let that keep you from advancing. Start by breaking the task into smaller management goals, all pointing to the big picture. List your steps and schedule each one on your calendar. If it is not written down, chances are that it will never happen.
Yes, it does take a commitment and some discipline to keep making advances, but the results are worth it. You will experience a more positive outlook both from the changes themselves and from your successful completion of the project.
